LATE ROMAN WHITE GLASS FLASK
Ca. AD 400 - 500 A stunning translucent white glass flask boasting a graceful inverted pear-shaped body with a decorated handle moulded from a thread of glass. The slender neck gently flares to a vertical rim, while the rounded base sits upon a round foot. Stunning violet and rainbow iridescence areas nicely complement the vessel’s elegant form. Most scholars agree that Roman glass was of the highest quality – both aesthetically and technically – among the ancients. We can appreciate such a wide variety of forms and shapes because the medium of glass has unique physical properties that make for so many more possibilities than metal or clay.
