EGYPTIAN PAPYRUS FRAGMENTS WITH DEMOTIC TEXT
Roman Period, Ca. 100 BC - 100 AD (or earlier)
Fragments of papyrus inscribed with demotic cursive script. The demotic script can be characterized as a highly schematized and simplified form of hieroglyphics. It aimed to overcome the complex pictorial nature of hieroglyphs by transforming them into more manageable and streamlined signs. This transformation allowed for greater efficiency in recording and communicating information, as demotic script enabled scribes to write in a more rapid and fluid manner.
