LARGE ANCIENT ROMAN BRONZE OLPE
Ca. 300-400 AD.
A bronze jug with a flaring step rim, restricted neck, piriform body, and a long figural handle with a plate in the form of a head of a bearded man. Wine drinking was an important part of Roman culture. This beautiful vessel would have been used for the serving of wine, which was often consumed mixed with spices or honey.
