The Space Venus is a contemporary adaptation of the Large Roman Marble Venus, created by a talented London-based emerging artist Matthew Dorabiala. His practice is heavily inspired by classical masterpieces of the past, such as the aforementioned Marble Venus which he encountered in our Bloomsbury-based gallery when searching for inspirations. He then decided to 3D scan the marble piece with help of our digital team and proceeded to reimaginate the sculpture in modern techniques using 3D printing as well as 24k gold gilding.
From the artist: The Space Venus sets to tackle our fascination with beauty accompanying us from the dawn of our existence. It does that by transcending the visage of its earth-bound inspirational base, the white marble Venus into a 3D printed reinstallation, gilded in 24k gold. The gold-black contrast symbolises an earthly departure into a new era of space exploration and fascination with what lies beyond this planet.
