ANCIENT GREEK GNATHIAN WARE PROCHOUS
Ca. 400 BC. A metallic black glazed pottery handled oil bottle having a tapered bulbous body, high angular handle and pour spout, stylized lion head lugs at the sides of the channel spout. Polychrome painted leafy vine decoration with a central flower. Upper and lower bands of Greek key, wave, dot and tongue patterns. Beautifully decorated example. Size: L:192mm / W:78mm; 196.5g. Provenance: London art gallery; formerly in a private Florida collection; acquired from Christies, NYC.
