Description

ANCIENT EGYPTIAN FAIENCE SONS OF HORUS
Late Dynastic Period, Ca. 664-332 BC. A fine set of three mould-formed faience amulets depicting Sons of Horus. Each is mummiform, shown in a profile, covered in lustrous blue glaze, and pierced for attachment to mummy wrappings. The 4 Sons of Horus, protectors of the organs of the deceased are the human-headed Imsety, the jackal-headed Duamutef, the baboon-headed Hapy, and the falcon-headed Qebhsenuef. Cf. National Museum of Ireland, Dublin, Inventory number 1920:278-287. Size: L:70-75mm / W:14-19mm ; 26g Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s; previously in 1960s UK collection.
