Hadrian AR Denarius. Rome, AD 134-138. HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, bare head right / ITALIA, Italia standing left, holding sceptre and cornucopiae. RIC 307. 2,86g, 17,4mm, 7h. Near Extremely Fine.
This coin is part of Hadrian's Travel series throughout the Roman Empire. His tours apparently served to inspect the borders of the empire which had experienced a significant expansion under Trajan. Since Italia did not have any boarders or outposts, it was more likely to have been used as start or return point of the travel series.
