Circa 1st millenium BC. Egyptian bronze frog with smooth light green patina, hole to the rear, probably where the suspension hoop used to be. Frogs were symbols of the Egyptian goddess of childbirth Heqet. Amulets were worn for their magical powers against sickness, pain and suffering, or as a talisman for long life. Good condition. Provenance: Property of a London collector, formerly in an early 1980s collection.
