2nd - 3rd century AD. Bronze figure of a Sphinx in a dynamic motion, with one leg raised, expressive face, socketed for the decoration of a wooden object, on stand. Originally, the sphinx was probably decorating a table or a chair. Attractive dark-green and auburn patina. Provenance: From the collection of a South London gentleman, from the 1970s; ex.
