★ Augustus & Divus Julius ★

MACEDON, Philippi: Augustus (27 BCE-14 CE), AE. 7.40g, 26mm.
Obv: COL AVG IVL PHIL IVSSV AVG; laureate head right.
Rev: AVG DIVI F DIVO IVL; Cuirassed statue of Augustus standing left, raising hand, crowned by mantled statue of Divus Julius standing left; both statues on cippus between two smaller bases.
RPC I 1650, SNG Cop 283, SNG ANS 683, McClean 3269, Moushmov 6920, Cohen 739

Visible on the left side of the obverse and right side of the reverse is some kind of resin filler, probably removable. Some has been removed on the other side (a small trace remains on the edge at 4 o’clock).
An historically significant issue given Augustus and Antony’s victory over Caesar’s assassins at Philippi in 42 BCE.
