England. Aethelred II. 978-1016. AR Half Penny (10mm, 0.80g). Intermediate Small Cross / Crux mule type (BMC iii, Hild Cb). Winchester mint; uncertain moneyer. Struck circa 995-997. With the readable “E” of the reverse legend, paired with the “PINT” spelling of Winchester and based on B. E. Hildebrand “Anglosachsiska Mynt i Svenska Kongliga Myntkabinettet. Stockholm, 1881” the moneyer for this rare mule could possibly be either Ælfsige (BEH 4055) or Godwine (BEH 4241).
