England. William I the Conqueror. 1066-1087. AR Penny (18mm, 0.98g, 6h). Sword type (BMC VI). Shaftesbury mint; moneyer Godsbrand. Struck circa 1077-1080. + PILLELM REX, facing crowned bust, holding sword in right hand/ +GODSBRIND ON SI, cross pattee over quadrilateral with incurved sides, fleury at angles. SCBI 54 (Stockholm), 1300 var; BMC 427 var; North 846. Very Fine, pierced.
