Denmark. Svend Estridsen. 1047-1075. AR penning (17mm, 0.60g). West Danish mint(?). Draped bust left; crozier before / Voided short cross, trefoil of pellets in angle, opposed small cross pattee. Hauberg 3; Thomsen 9997; Hbg. auk. 732 var.; LEB 1634 var; Hede III 47; Ernst -; Becker collection -. Near Fine, flan crack.
Hauberg attributed this coin to Lund based on one example which reverse read +IADRIF ON LVNDL (1.20g). However, the present specimen and others have much lower weight which indicates a different mint in West Denmark, most likely Viborg but Aalborg or Aarhus could also be possible. See K. Bengtsson, “Inte bara Lund som myntort – Jylland också!” in Nordisk Numismatisk Unions Medlemsblad No. 5, August 1999.
