Description

Ptolemaic kingdom of Egypt. Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II (Physcon). 145-116 BC. Æ (27mm, 23.87 g, 11h). Alexandreia mint. Series 7. Diademed head of Zeus-Ammon right / Two eagles with their wings closed standing left on thunderbolt; cornucopia to left. Svoronos 1424B; SNG Copenhagen 308–10; Lorber & Faucher Series 7C. Dark and green deposits. Fine. This issue has long been attributed to the joint reign of Ptolemy VI and Ptolemy VIII (Svoronos and SNG Cop) but it is now reattributed to the reign of Ptolemy IX to Ptolemy XII.
