Description

Cilicia, Hierapolis-Castabala. Tarkondimotos I. 34-31 B.C. AE 22 (21.9 mm, 9.66 g, 12 h). Diademed head of Tarkondimatos I right; countermark of anchor within oval / ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΤΑΡΚΟΝΔΙΜΟΤΟΥ ΦΙΛΑΝΤΩΝΙΟΥ, Zeus enthroned left holding Nike and scepter. BMC 1-4; RPC I 3871. VF, damnatio cut. Rare and of historic importance.

Mark Antony made Tarkondimatos king. The name Phil-Antony (friend of Antony) is purposefully cut with a line going through his name. This coin is of historical important due to the cut through the name.
