Description

Egypt, Alexandria. Maximinus I. A.D. 235-238. BI tetradrachm (24.3 mm, 13.44 g, 11 h). Alexandria mint, dated RY 4 = A.D. 237/8. AVTO MAΞIMINOC ЄVCЄB, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Maximinus I right, seen from behind / Nilus reclining left on rocks, reed above his head, holding cornucopiae and resting elbow on hippopotamus' head; in left field, LΔ (date). Köln 2585; Dattari (Savio) 4590; K&G 65.70; Emmett 3293. Good VF, minor void in obverse field, reverse surfaces slightly rough.
