GALATIA. Tavium. Septimius Severus, 193-211. Tetrassarion (Orichalcum, 25 mm, 11.09 g, 7 h). ΑΥ Κ Λ ϹЄΠ - ϹЄΟΥΗΡΟϹ Laureate head of Septimius Severus to right. Rev. ϹЄ ΤΡΟ ΤΑ-ΟΥΙΑΝΩΝ Apollo, nude but for cloak hanging from his shoulders, standing front, head to right, holding olive branch in his right hand and lyre set on Corinthian column with his left; behind to left, olive tree. BMC 8 and pl. V, 6 ( same dies ). SNG Copenhagen -. SNG Leypold -. SNG München -. SNG von Aulock -. Of the highest rarity, apparently the second and finest known example. A lovely coin with a particularly attractive reverse. Slightly rough, otherwise, about extremely fine.
